• 「そう」 means “like that” can be used with any of the three engines (「う」, 「い」, or 「だ」)
• once 「そう」 is attached to an engine, it becomes a new adjectival noun
  • remove the last kana from the engine and add 「そう」 for a “seems like” meaning
  • 「だ」 engine must be with an adjectival noun
  • ex: 「元気そうな人」 means “a lively-looking person”
  • ex: 「美味しそう」 means “tasty looking”
  • for ichidan verbs, just remove the 「る」 and add 「そう」
    • ex: 「雨が降りそうだ。」 means “It looks like it is about to rain.”
  • for godan verbs, use the い stem and add 「そう」
• when talking about hearsay, 「そうだ」 or 「そうです」 is used at the end of the sentence
  • the complete sentence becomes the A car and the 「そうだ」/「そうです」 becomes the B engine
  • ex: 「彼が有名な人だそうだ。」 means “(It seems like/I heard) he is a famous person.”
