- counter words come between the number and the thing
- ex: 「一りんの花」 means “one flower”
- ex: 「猫が五ひきいます。」 means “Cats exist five-ly (five-small-animals-ly).”
- counters are adverbial nouns
- rules for counter sound changes
- if the first kana of the counter can’t take a 「点点」, there will be no sound change
- on 1 and 10, all 「点点」-able counters replace the second syllable of the number with a small 「っ」
- ex: 「いちかい」 becomes 「いっかい」
- with 6 and 8, 「か」 and 「は」column counters tend to the same thing as above
- sometimes, a 「点点」 or 「○」 is placed on 3
