- ば and れば attach to the え stem of verbs (ば for godan verbs and れば for ichidan verbs)
- 「する」 and 「来る」 work like ichidan verbs, becoming 「すれば」 and 「来れば」, respectively
- for adjectives, replace the final い with ければ
- ば and れば are used for hypotheticals
- ex: 「どうすればいい?」 means “How, if I act, will be good?”
- ex: 「傘を持って来ればよかった。」 means “If I had brought an umbrella, it would have been good.”
- ex: 「勉強しなければいけない。」 means “If I don’t study, it won’t go.”
