- “It” refers to the situation or circumstance
- other-move implies volition
- need 「こと」 after 「結婚する」 because logical particles only attach to nouns
- 「フランスで留学することになった。」 means “It became the thing of studying abroad in France.”
- self-move implies the decision was made outside
- 「ことになる」 does not always imply a decision (ex: 「大変なことになった。」)
