    • 「引き返し」 is the い stem of 「引き返す」 (“to go back”) and is used as the connective て form here

    • 「所が」 is using the contrastive 「が」 and means “at that point/time, but”
    • it also adds a sense of unexpectedness (“although she pressed the bell, there was no response”)
