notes
- 「しか」 displaces the 「が」 particle
- 「しか」 selects a noun, inverts it, and marks it as the subject of the sentence
- ex: 「田中さんしかいない。」 means “Everyone other than Tanaka-san is not here.”
- ex: 「タオルが一枚しかありません。」 means “towels everything-but-one not-exists.” (“There is only one towel.”)
- 「しかない」 can mean to do nothing but what is marked by 「しかない」
