- 「XはYです。」 is the basic Japanese statement sentence
- 「X」 is the topic
- 「は」 is the topic marking particle

questions
- to ask questions in polite Japanese, add the particle 「か」 to the end of a polite sentence
- questions marks are not necessary when using 「か」

- 「noun A」 + 「の」 + 「noun B」
- 「noun A」 is additional information
- 「noun B」 is the main noun
- 「の」 can also be used as the possessive
